The Guelph Community Foundation
Perhaps you are not familiar with The Guelph Community Foundation (GCF). This independent, volunteer driven organization was federally incorporated as a registered charitable public foundation in 1999 and began operation in 2000 with $13,000 in donations. By 2014, over $450,000 was granted out to the community and nine new funds were added to the Family of Funds in that year. The GCF states their purpose is to provide leadership in community philanthropy and to enhance the quality of life for the citizens. This is done through grants that promote and support community initiatives and non-profit charitable organizations. They support and promote endowments and donor services, grant making and community leadership in an easy, flexible and efficient manner. The GCF has an in depth knowledge of the community, as well as specialized knowledge about estate planning and ways donors can maximize the value of their charitable givings.
The community benefits greatly from the grants available through the foundation. Currently, the GCF has been allocated $60,000 from The Community Foundations of Canada’s Fund for Canada’s 150th birthday. This National organization will match grant dollars with the local organization to create a total of $120,000 available to grant.
