This June is Ontario’s 32nd seniors’ month, and here at the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington we are excited to join in the celebration! Seniors’ month is dedicated to helping seniors stay active, safe and engaged in their community. The theme of this year is “seniors making a difference”, and it’s the perfect theme to thank and recognize all of the amazing senior volunteers who dedicate their time to helping their communities. In fact, did you know that seniors contribute more annual volunteer hours than any other age group?
The Premier of Ontario had something to say about seniors’ month, take a look below!
In recognition of this, the Ontario government is offering the “Ontario Senior Achievement Award” to honour up to 20 seniors that have made an ‘outstanding contribution to their community’. If you are a senior or know a senior that has contributed to your community, the application deadline is June 15th and can be found at: http://www.citizenship.gov.on.ca/english/citizenship/honours/saa.shtml.
